This study aims to determine the level of response of farmers in the conversion of lowland rice to shallots. This study was carried out in Pematang Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency from March to May 2022. The data collection method used was interviews and distributing questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, while the data analysis method used a Likert scale and multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that the response rate of farmers in the conversion of lowland rice to shallots is relatively high, with a percentage of 77.3%. While the results of multiple linear regression on the factors that influence the response of farmers in the conversion of paddy rice to shallots obtained the equation Y = 36.365 + 0.340X1 + 0.819X2 + 0.442X3 - 0.354X4. Simultaneously the variable characteristics of farmers, economic factors, pull factors and the role of extension agents influence the response of farmers in the conversion of lowland rice to shallots with a value of Fcount (29.802) > FTable (3.62).
